A free companion · Lost Skills of Our Grandparents

Welcome. Your Start-Here Guide is ready.

You’ve got the book in your hands. This is the little companion I promised inside it — free, yours to keep, with nothing to buy.

Your free printable Start-Here Guide: Your First 10 Skills (the ten to begin with, in order, so you’re not paralyzed by choice), a one-page Seasonal Home Rhythm calendar of what to do when, and a printable Family Skills card to fill in with the people you’re teaching.

Free printable PDF. No email needed — a straight download, nothing to buy.

Got it? There are two more free printables to go with the book — if you’d like those too, leave your email below. Completely optional.

What’s inside

Three small things to help you begin

The guide doesn’t re-teach the book — it shows you where to start, what to do when, and gives you a page to fill in together.

One

Your First 10 Skills

The ten to begin with, in order — so you’re not paralyzed by choice. A gentle path into the book, one skill at a time.

Two

A Seasonal Home Rhythm

A simple one-page calendar of what to do when — from putting up the summer harvest to weatherproofing before winter.

Three

A Family Skills Card

An extra copy of the Register page — to photocopy and fill in with the people you’re teaching.

Hazel Calloway

Farm-raised, and a keeper of the old ways

I grew up watching my grandmother do a hundred small things well — mend a sleeve, put up the summer tomatoes, coax good bread from flour and a little patience. Nobody called them skills back then. They were just how you kept a home.

I wrote Lost Skills of Our Grandparents so those quiet, useful ways don’t slip off with the people who knew them — and so you can hand them on to the folks at your own table. This little guide is simply where to begin.

A note on this photo: it was made with the help of AI imaging tools. Hazel Calloway is the pen name under which these books are written and published by Bayside Press.

Optional · only if you want it

Want the next two, too?

You already have your Start-Here Guide — no email needed for that. But there are two more free printables I made to go alongside the book. If you’d like them (and the odd note from me), leave your email and I’ll send them along.

Extra Family Skills Register cards for every room of the book — plus a short, warm guide, “How to Teach a Skill to a Grandchild.”

No spam, ever. Your email is used only to send you these free printables and the occasional note — never sold or shared. Leave any time, one click. Your Start-Here Guide never depends on this.

Before you go — your guide is waiting

Print it, tuck it inside the book’s cover, and begin with just one skill this week. The rest will follow, the way they always have.
